Welcome to my fairy tale....

Her feet touched the ground, but she felt anything but stable.

Warwick reached for her hand. He guided her out of the elevator as he walked backward, careful not to break eye contact.

Isla followed Warwick, stepping out of the light and into the darkness. Anxiety enveloped her. The darkness suffocated. She gripped Warwick’s hand tightly.

“Let your eyes relax. You will see it.”

“See what?”

“I’ve seen your world. Now it’s time you saw mine.”

Isla’s breaths grew deeper as she concentrated on the blinding darkness in front of her. Slowly, Warwick came into focus, as if clear as day. And behind him, the landscape revealed itself.

A corridor grew by miles the longer she took in her surroundings. The walls were primitive, carved out of the earth. Although the air was calm and tranquil where she stood, streams of blood-red fabric flooded the corridor, billowing and whipping. The sheerness of the fabric allowed the invisible wind to command their movements, as if dancing to a silent melody. Twisting, streaming and rippling, the material moved with a noticeable sensuality, enticing her to travel down the corridor. But she stood frozen, mesmerized by everything her eyes were taking in. She fantasized about what lay at the end of the path.

Suddenly, Warwick picked her up, sweeping her off her feet. He carried her down the corridor, moving effortlessly in a smooth, flowing stride, as if he were gliding through the passage. It was dreamlike, everything moving in slow motion.

The blood-red material blew across them as they made their journey. The touch was enchanting, unlike anything she’d ever felt caressing her skin. It felt like water drenching her one minute, soft human fingertips the next. The farther they traveled, the more humanlike the fabric appeared. Soon it formed long fingers outlining the contours of her face. From her neck, past her cheeks and up to her hairline, the fingers moved sensually, disappearing into the thick of her hair.

Tantalizing and mystifying, the experience proved to be arousing and stimulating. But the dull blade of anxiety sharpened once again, causing a sudden pain to slice through her belly. “What is this?” Isla asked breathlessly.

“They won’t hurt you.”

They? Oh, my god. This shouldn’t be happening.”

Warwick smiled and continued on the path.

Isla worked vehemently to observe everything. She gazed upward, watching the countless pieces of lifelike material flow in wavy patterns, rippling sensually above her. The sea of red painted the darkness with undeniable passion, but also an unavoidable caution.

She tried not to think about it. It was a vampire world she wasn’t yet meant to understand. Though she couldn’t help but wonder what gave the material its energy. There was no wind. From what she could observe, there were no mechanisms or strings controlling their movement.

Unconsciously, Isla’s focus began to center on one particular piece of material in the distance. The undulating movement captured her, sending her into a trance. Just as an outline of something was about to reveal itself, Warwick stopped in his tracks.

She looked all around her.

The fabric hung in place now, stationary and lifeless. Confused, she looked to the walls. No doors existed. Her gaze turned to the path in front of them then past his broad shoulders. No sign of the elevator remained. By all accounts, the space was void of any noticeable destination and provided no rhyme or reason for Warwick’s abrupt halt.

As suddenly as he’d swept her off her feet, she was standing upright, her mind in a daze. Warwick took a few steps back but kept his devilish stare burning right through her. Then, as if given a green light, the fabric back came to life once again, encircling her and Warwick until all she saw was red.

“They want to help us.”

Pieces of fabric touched Isla’s skin. She watched as the hands she’d felt earlier materialized again before her eyes. The transformation was astonishing and rendered Isla speechless. A long, rectangular piece of sheer fabric bunched together, forming a tight ball at its end. Slowly, it unraveled to reveal the outline of a hand. Long red fingers, the index and middle, walked their way up her arm teasingly, rounding her shoulder and tickling her clavicle.

Then they slid down to her chest—until they reappeared as a hand cupping and squeezing her breast.

“Oh,” Isla moaned.

More fabric made its way to her body, transforming into hands that massaged, caressed and stroked every inch of her. The sensations on her flesh made her nipples harden upon contact and sent her into a blissful haze.

“Isla, I ache for you.”
