Maya's "Man Candy" Vampires
What makes a man sexy? The answers are obviously subjective.
When I’m in character development, I use a three trigger point system to create my man. When I think about physical attraction, it’s these trigger points that always proves to be a sure fire way of capturing the essence of magnetism. Sure, each trigger has endless qualities or factors that a woman’s taste will vary on, but in its primitive form, these are the ingredients to create an undeniable and delicious temptation.
1. Masculinity- Firm butt? Bulging Bicep? Washboard abs? No. Masculinity is not always an anatomical attribute. Masculinity is inherent and embodied in the most basic characteristics of the man. It’s in his stance, in his walk, the way he takes a swig of his beer, answers the phone, nods a response, sits in a chair, or grunts during lovemaking. Even if reminiscent of caveman-like tendencies, it’s still all man and oozes that natural and innate manliness.
2. Capture-Loving a man’s eyes or smile does not necessarily mean it’s the particular color or shape that breeds the attraction or the perfectly constructed veneers that takes your breath away. Why a woman is instantly captured is centered all on what his eyes and smile speaks to her. A glint, sparkle, wink, stare, or smirk, can whisper “come here”, “you make me happy”, “you’re the one”, or “kiss me”. Speaking without words breaks down resistance and is a great power two people can savor.
3. Confidence-Acting like a “look-at-me” asshole is not confidence…but rather the lack thereof. Confidence is the man that doesn’t need horns announcing his arrival to make a statement in a room. The poise and assurance he carries exudes an aura of authority that keeps a woman’s eyes riveted. Even if sitting in a darkened corner, a good balance of self assurance can put him in the spotlight, as if he was on a stage.
So, there you go- my three-step process of molding my male characters. Although built by a formula, they are never the same. And this is exactly what I look for in my on-screen and print counterparts for my characters.
